Her teacher, Denise Hill, nominated Shannon while she was a fifth grader at Boulder Bluff Elementary school. She was nominated for her citizenship, patriotism, and leadership while a student at Boulder Bluff Elementary.
Shannon was also selected as Boulder Bluff Elementary Student Citizen of the year and earlier this spring, Gov. Mark Sanford in Columbia awarded her a medal and certificate for her outstanding citizenship and leadership. This honor was only open to 250 students nationally.
Shannon will be learning about leadership and how our national landmarks came about and how they affect our country and leaders. She will be visiting many of our National landmarks, such as, the interactive Museum of News on America’s Main Street, Harper’s Ferry, the Lincoln Memorial, and Vietnam and Korean War Memorials, The White House and several other landmarks. While doing so, the students will be engaging in field studies exploring and reflecting on the importance of these places in our history.
Shannon is the daughter of James and Katheryn Brennan and the younger sister of Siobhan and Shaina Brennan of Goose Creek.
She has been working to raise funds to participate in this prestigious program, the attendance fee is $1,800 plus travel expenses of $800. Her parents have been working to help her with this, and plan on having a car wash and some other fundraisers to help her with tuition. If any group or individual wishes to assist this deserving young lady to attend this conference, please feel free to contact her parents at kmcbrennan@aol.com
Good for her! : 9/7/2008
