Sangaree Middle's Eaton honored

Sangaree Middle School eighth grade science teacher Ina Eaton was recently chosen as the 2007 "Outstanding Earth Science Teacher" for the state of South Carolina.

She received the honor from the National Association of Geoscience Teachers.

In her 31-year career, Eaton has taught every grade of science from fifth through the 11th, but earth and space science has always been her favorite.  She has been a school leader in introducing technology in the classroom and in modeling ways to actively implement the newest state science standards.

Eaton has been one of the leaders for the school "science night" concept, and in introducing technology in the classroom.

Eaton has taught at SMS in Ladson since 2004.  A biographical sketch of her will be published in the Journal of Geoscience Education in its January 2008 issue.

She received the award Nov. 1 at a South Carolina Earth Science Teachers Association meeting.
