Michael Pendley

Lowcountry Gridsters receive honors

Several Pinewood football players will have unique opportunities this post season.

Pinewood senior Michael Pendley has been selected to play in the Oasis All Star Shrine Classic on Nov. 25 at Charlotte Country Day School. Pendley, a 6-foot-6 inch, 260-pound defensive lineman, was selected for the honor after he accumulated 58 solo tackles this season. He also had five sacks and two fumble recoveries.

The Oasis Shrine Bowl is the independent school equivalent of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas event. Pendley will report on Nov. 20 and join athletes from private school across the Carolinas as they visit the Shriner's Hospital in Greenville.

Five athletes from Pinewood Prep’s Varsity and JV football teams have been selected to attend the third annual Offense-Defense All-American Bowl under the bright lights and big screen of Dallas Cowboys Stadium in December.

Troy Wilson (running back), Donnell Bryan II (wide receiver), Charles (CT) Frederick III (wide receiver), Jared Stenger (linebacker) and Kristofer Johnson (quarterback) were selected after earning top performance awards during an Offense-Defense national camp over the summer. They will join dozens of peers in their age group nationwide in an East meets West clash that is part of a week-long series of events that leads up to the sixth annual Offense-Defense All-American Bowl that showcases 80 of the top high school seniors in the country.
