Wave JV triumphs over Beaufort

Johnston McCurry and David Coccoli were both in on two touchdowns Oct. 27 as the Green Wave JV defeated Beaufort 21-14.

In the first quarter, McCurry connected with Coccoli on an 86-yard TD pass for a 6-0 Summerville lead.

Beaufort took a 7-6 lead in the second quarter on a 2-yard TD run and the extra point, but Summerville answered in the third quarter. McCurry capped a drive with a 2-yard QB sneak into the end zone and then hit Jamal Lucas with a pass for the two-point conversion.

Coccoli cushioned the Wave’s lead with a 35-yard scoring run late in the quarter. Beaufort managed to pull within a score with another TD run in the fourth, but then Summerville held out for the win.

The Wave offensive line (Zach Bailey, Jonathan James, Tyler Graham and Matt Wilson) did a good job up front as Summerville rushed for 171 yards on 28 carries in the game. McCurry completed 11 of 12 pass attempts for 161 yards for a total of 332 offensive yards.

Myliq Delany had 130 rushing yards on the night while Daniel Smith and Jamal Lucas led the Summerville receivers.

Defensive standouts included Daquan Wrighten, who broke up a couple of passes and had a big punt return, Seth Brown and Tristen Snow.

This week, Summerville hosts Colleton County, which is undefeated.
