Dear Editor:
On April 19 the Goose Creek Police Department sponsored its 23rd annual “Making a Difference for St. Jude” Bike-A-Thon to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
I would like to address an important issue, and I encourage all drivers who read this to share it with others, including those who are getting ready to drive.
The school year, as we know, is more than half over, and if you travel the county as I do, you have seen many school buses on the road. There are guidelines in place that dictate when to stop and when you don’t have to stop. I want to point out some safety issues and clarify any misunderstanding about when to stop for a stopped school bus.
Dear Editor:
Recent events regarding the 419 children removed from the compound in Eldorado, Texas have raised questions about what happens to children who enter the foster care system. This tragic situation has helped raised national awareness of the problems that children face when they are removed from their families and thrust into overburdened court and child protection systems.
Dear Editor:
I would like to commend Mayor Heitzler for his stance on improving the roadways of Goose Creek.
Dear Editor:
If you are part of the youth soccer world in Goose Creek, you are already aware of the significant loss suffered due to the untimely deaths of both Matt Slagle, a long-time coach and board member for Goose Creek United Soccer Club, and, more recently, Ralph Schmaltz, long-time board president, coach, cheerleader and tireless supporter of youth soccer.
Dear Editor:
Last week, a special person was taken away from us.
Dear Editor:
What ever happened to the music standards of the 60’s and 70’s? Many of you who are parents know that MTV and VH1 have taken over with young kids with exposure to rap music (which is not age-appropriate), videos, and the so-called “booty dancing.”
Dear Editor:
The new Cane Bay school infuriates me to no end. I thought that educating our youth was what the public school system was all about. Silly me. I see now that it is about competing with other school districts to see who can BS the taxpayers the best and build the fanciest school. Well, I think that it is obvious that our great superintendent, Chester Floyd, has won that competition, hands down.
Dear Editor:
Earlier this month, South Carolina celebrated National Library Week.

Dear Editor:
As we reflect on our recent community read, “One Book Berkeley,” we realize anew what a community means. Without the enthusiasm, hard work and financial support of so many, our celebration of reading and literacy would not have been possible.
I have learned that Berkeley County is considering raising water rates to about $78 per month.  I am currently paying about $56 a month, and this is the most I have paid for water in my entire life.
I am retired, and live on a fixed income, and conserve in every way possible.
Dear Editor:
The government is in the business of passing laws to protect people from themselves; like it or not, that is exactly what the government does.
In response to recent articles, letters to the editor, and public questions, I would like to provide the following information.
Goose Creek Recreation Commission members have differing opinions on what is best for district residences.
I want to say how truly humbled I am so many people in our community saw me worthy of their vote for our South Carolina House of Representatives seat. Those who know me understand that public service is something I take very seriously. I will work hard to make you proud and to assure you that your trust was well placed.
Although the Republican Primary is behind us, there will still be one more election – the General Election on Tuesday, March 25.  I am running unopposed but there is always the chance of a write-in candidate.  So I need your vote once again to win and be your representative. The polls will be open from 7 am to 7 p.m.
