Unhappy with school district

Dear Editor:

The new Cane Bay school infuriates me to no end. I thought that educating our youth was what the public school system was all about. Silly me. I see now that it is about competing with other school districts to see who can BS the taxpayers the best and build the fanciest school. Well, I think that it is obvious that our great superintendent, Chester Floyd, has won that competition, hands down.

When it was revealed that it would cost the good citizens of Berkeley County gazillions to build the Cane Bay school, I was astounded that it should cost so much. Now, I see why. While our ranking in educating our kids is in the toilet, we are spending money to out-do another school district by building a monstrosity at Cane Bay. If we had built a structure with the only consideration being to educate our youth, we would have saved enough money to give our educators nice raises and put us in line to compete for the best available. Someone, and I won’t mention any names here, but his initials are Chester Floyd, needs to wake up and start doing the right thing and spend the taxpayer’s money in the right areas.

Hopefully, we are right around the corner from dong something about it. The upcoming elections are going to tell a sad tale for “the” superintendent with the nicest schools. Enough of the folks who have supported Floyd and his extravagance will be voted out and then the folks who understand that there should be some common sense applied to the way the school district is run will be in charge. Then the emphasis will be on educating our youth, as it should have always been.
