Last week, a special person was taken away from us.
Ralph Schmaltz passed away, leaving large footprints that will not easily be filled. The Goose Creek soccer community was blessed with his leadership and commitment to the youth in Goose Creek and beyond.
Whenever I saw Ralph, whether it was cooking at Stratford games, volunteering his time to help others, or just doing things on his own personal time, you could be sure that he had family and/or friends at the top of his interests. Those in Hunter Woods who didn’t know him by name would always recognize him as the man at the front of the neighborhood who smiled and waved at everyone as they drove by.
There are many people who will be missed by a few, but there are few people who will be missed by many. Ralph was one of the good guys.
On behalf of my family and many others, I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to his family for their generosity and unselfishness in allowing Ralph to spend his time serving the children, and the community at large.
