Goose Creek Police Chief Harvey Becker recently announced that the Goose Creek Police Department has been allotted $10,102 by the Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance under the 2009 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Formula Program.
Becker said the department proposes to allocate this funding for the purchase of two new ruggedized laptop computers to be placed in patrol vehicles currently not equipped.

More than 100 residents from northern Berkeley County packed county council chambers during council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Monday night expressing outrage, indignation and outright defiance of a $2.25 million waterline project that nobody seems to want and some believe is politically motivated.

Marcia O’Brien, a teacher and guidance counselor at Summerville Elementary School for two decades, died Sunday in a two-vehicle collision just outside Saluda, authorities said. She had formerly worked in the Berkeley County School District.
O’Brien, 53, was traveling in a 1999 Volkswagen when, for unknown reasons, a 1996 Chevrolet rollback-style wrecker in the opposite lane went left of center lane and collided head-on with O’Brien, according to Lance Cpl. Scott Edgeworth of the S.C. Highway Patrol. She was wearing a seatbelt.
