Frank W. Sanders Jr.




Frank W. Sanders Jr. of Goose Creek died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010. He was 89.


Born Oct. 9, 1920 in Inwood Park Nasssau, NY, he was one of nine children of Frank Woodruff Sanders and Elizabeth Catherine Boinay Sanders. He served in the US Army 82nd Airborne as a Captain during World War II; he received the silver star, three bronze medals and a Purple Heart with clusters.  


Mr. Sanders continued his military service in the State Guard and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He owned and operated Southeast Mechanical Company Inc., a mechanical contracting firm.  


His wife of 62 years, Peggy, preceded in him in death in 2008.


He is survived by his daughters, Maria Veronica Seymour and her husband, Kenneth Eugene Seymour of Chillicothe, OH, Elizabeth Catherine Sanders of Goose Creek, and Peggy Ann Sanders Messervy and her husband Thomas William Messervy of James Island; sons Frank W. Sanders III and his wife Cynthia Messervy Sanders of Helotes, TX, and Robert M. Sanders and his wife Carol Cindy Hegedus Sanders of Templeton, CA; a brother, Robert Sanders and his wife Jenny of James Island; sisters Claudette Humbert and her husband, Bruce of James Island, June Barrineau and her husband, Leroy of French Quarter Creek, SC, and Jeannette Kennedy and her husband, Marvin Smith of Bonneau; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.  


He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Sanders and his wife Theresa, and Bill and his wife Dolliree Sanders; and two sisters, Elizabeth Lyon and her husband Jack and Mary Ray.


The Liturgy of Christian Burial was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Monday, Jan. 25.  Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell were held at Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island followed by military honors.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Immaculate Conception Church, 510 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
