Northwood teams earn split at Hilton Head Prep

Northwood Academy’s basketball teams split a pair of close region games Friday night at Hilton Head Prep.

The boys team got 29 points from Alex Cohen, including the game-winner with two seconds left in the second overtime, en route to a 73-71 win, while the second-ranked Lady Chargers almost unseated the No. 1 team in SCISA before falling 59-53.

In addition to Cohen, Ishmael Turner had a big night for the Northwood boys, scoring 21 points.

The win improved the Chargers to 7-9 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Northwood’s girls (11-4, 3-1) led for most of the game before the Lady Dolphins rallied. Hilton Head Prep used a 12-2 run in the final minutes of the third quarter to take a 43-42 lead into the final period.

Amber Campbell led Northwood with 23 points, while Beth Hoisington and Sam Chubb added seven apiece.

Northwood was to meet Pinewood Prep Tuesday before hosting Hilton Head Christian Friday.

Cane Bay teams swept by Woodland in region

Cane Bay’s dropped both games to Woodland Friday.

The girls fell 51-27 and the boys lost 69-33.

Angelique Green led the Lady Cobras (8-4, 1-1) with 15 points.

Xavier Moultrie had eight points for the Cane Bay boys (3-12, 0-2).
